Million Dollar Quartet
is a rendition of one of the most auspicious events in music history.
On December 4, 1956, in Memphis, Tennessee, Rock and Roll was birthed at
the hand of Sam Phillips. Phillips had earlier discovered Johnny Cash,
Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley. At Sun Records, these
four iconic artists came together for an impromptu recording session
for the only time in their careers. The resulting product is now
known as one of the greatest rock jam sessions ever performed.
This exciting musical is currently playing in London and on New York's Broadway, as well as Chicago's Apollo Theater.
The Apollo Theater is a smaller theater venue, which means there's not a
bad seat in the house. The performance we are attending will be a 2:00
pm matinee. We will be returning to Clinton following the show.
Loading and
disembarking will be at the city parking lot at 7th Avenue South and
South 3rd Street. The bus has a restroom and other amenities.
The bus will load
between 8:30 and 8:00 am, with a departure time of 9:00 am; Chicago
arrival is anticipated to be noon, which will give you a little free
time before the play to do some exploring on your own. You may enjoy
lunch at your choice of any of the nearby restaurants or coffee shops
in the historic Lincoln District. Lunch is not included.
The cost of the trip is $100 with a $10.00 discount for Art Association
members. A non-refundable deposit of $30.00 is due by October 25 and the remainder by November 10. The cost includes the theater tickets and bus fare.
You may sign up at the River Arts Center, 229-5th Ave. So., Clinton,
Iowa, during open hours Wednesday through Sunday from 1-4 PM, Saturdays from 11-4. You may also call 563-243-3300 to reserve a seat and mail payment to the above address
by the reservation deadline of October 25th.
If you've been
thinking about a trip to a Chicago play, this is your opportunity to
make that trip without the hassle of driving and parking concerns while
enjoying the company of a great group of folks.
